About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide on-site professional automotive and business support to GM retail and wholesale communities
  • Diagnose and direct repairs on customer vehicles to mitigate potential repurchases and reduce warranty expense
  • Provide third-level on-site support for escalated automotive technical issues
  • Respond to dispatch cases involving vehicle-down or potential-repurchase situations
  • Collaborate with District Manager Parts and Service, Regional Business Resource Managers, the Business Resource Center, GM Engineering, and other regional and national teams
  • Review and improve dealership comeback processes and service readiness
  • Review Preliminary Information bulletins and communicate authorized field-fix information
  • Conduct dealership training on Techline tools, applications, diagnostic tools, and equipment
  • Own dealership concerns and drive problem resolution through closure
  • Address customer problem-resolution needs by phone or at dealership locations
  • Report dealership service-readiness status to help prevent buybacks
  • Support dealer technician recruitment and retention efforts
  • Build and maintain relationships with dealership management, especially service departments
  • Represent GM as a field resource and spokesperson for automotive technical product information
  • Provide Field Product Reports to Vehicle/Powertrain Brand Quality Managers and GM Engineering
  • Support Better Business Bureau arbitration hearings and legal cases, including lemon-law lawsuits
  • Provide warranty-waste reduction suggestions to FSE Leadership and the BQM Team

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 2-5 years of extensive hands-on Automotive Dealership Service Department, vehicle diagnostic, or repair experience
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook (or equivalent email/calendar app)
  • Ability to manage, resolve, document, and close dispatch cases within the required timeframe
  • Ability to work with minimal direction and self-train to maintain and increase skills
  • Ability to create and provide specialized training
  • Excellent communication and time-management skills
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to meeting and exceeding customer expectations
  • Must live in the assigned territory or relocate to Irvine/Costa Mesa within a 30-mile radius
  • Must be able to travel at least 50% on a frequent basis
  • Must be legally authorized to work without GM immigration-related sponsorship now or in the future
  • Must be legally able to operate a motor vehicle regularly and successfully complete a Motor Vehicle Report review
  • Preferred: 10+ years of hands-on Automotive Dealership Service Department or equivalent vehicle diagnostic and repair experience
  • Preferred: Proficiency with Pico Scope
  • Preferred: 10+ years of customer handling, support, sales, administrative, computer, or other applicable business skills
  • Preferred: Computer hardware setup, internet, and wireless communications experience
  • Preferred: ASE A1-A9 plus Master Technician certification; T1-T8 plus Master Technician certification; L1, L2, and L3
  • Preferred: Knowledge of LAN/WAN IT infrastructure
