About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Purchase all or a specific portion of productive and/or non-productive materials, supplies, machinery, tooling, and services
- Participate in developing commodity strategies, executing sourcing and negotiations, contributing to global material budget execution, and collaborating with suppliers and internal partners
- Maintain sourcing pipeline, benchmarking data, strategy presentations, global budget, and on-time metrics
- Follow corporate and departmental purchasing and accounting practices and procedures
- Develop and manage sourcing strategies and bid lists
- Analyze and review quotes
- Coordinate RFQ package components, including Terms & Conditions, SOR compliance, technical documentation, and quality alignment
- Lead sourcing recommendations and align with cross-functional teams
- Manage RFQ sourcing documentation in accordance with GM Audit Services requirements
- Support direct material budget activities
- Lead or support supplier relationship management initiatives, including Strategic Supplier Engagement
- Serve as a focal point for commercial issue resolution and nurture supplier relationships
- Perform change management activities
- Lead or represent purchasing in supplier KPI reviews
- Represent purchasing and support mitigation of supply chain disruptions
- Promote GM behaviors and values and make customer-focused decisions
Requirements
What you’ll need- 2+ years of relevant work experience in purchasing, supply chain, program/product management, logistics, or product development; internship and co-op experience will not be considered
- Demonstrated ability to execute with direction or support in Data Judgement, Informative Communication, and Relationship Management
- Emerging ability and willingness to learn and apply knowledge in Negotiation, Analytical Thinking, Results Focus, and Workload Management
- SAP experience or ability to learn purchasing systems
- Ability to travel 5–10% domestically and internationally
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or a related field preferred
- Experience with commodities preferred
- Cost analysis or manufacturing experience preferred
- Automotive industry experience preferred
- Knowledge of Capacity and Materials Management preferred
- Ability to draw conclusions from complex data, market trends, and the regulatory environment preferred
- Ability to understand basic engineering documents and technical drivers for applicable commodities preferred
- Knowledge of contract law as it applies to purchasing processes preferred
- Must not require GM immigration-related sponsorship now or in the future, including H-1B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, or J-1 support
