About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Purchase all or a specific portion of productive and/or non-productive materials, supplies, machinery, tooling, and/or services
  • Participate in commodity strategy development, sourcing, negotiations, global material budget execution, and collaboration with suppliers and internal partners
  • Maintain the sourcing pipeline, benchmarking data, strategy presentations, global budget, and on-time metrics
  • Adhere to corporate and departmental purchasing and accounting practices and procedures
  • Develop and manage sourcing strategies and bid lists
  • Analyze and review quotes
  • Coordinate and align RFQ package components, including Terms & Conditions, SOR compliance, technical documentation, and quality alignment
  • Lead sourcing recommendations and align with cross-functional teams
  • Manage RFQ sourcing documentation in accordance with GM Audit Services requirements
  • Support direct material budget activities
  • Lead or support supplier relationship management initiatives, including Strategic Supplier Engagement
  • Act as a focal point for commercial issue resolution and nurture supplier relationships
  • Perform change management activities
  • Lead or represent purchasing in supplier KPI reviews
  • Represent purchasing and support mitigation of supply chain disruptions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Finance, a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 2+ years of relevant post-graduate work experience in purchasing, supply chain, program/product management, logistics, or product development
  • Ability to function collaboratively
  • Initiative and independent judgment
  • Ability to assess options through analysis and recommend plans of action
  • Ability to travel
  • Preferred: experience with commodities
  • Preferred: cost analysis or manufacturing experience
  • Preferred: automotive industry experience
  • Preferred: knowledge of Capacity and Materials Management
  • Preferred: ability to draw conclusions from complex data, market trends, and the regulatory environment
  • Preferred: ability to understand basic engineering documents and technical drivers for applicable commodities
  • Preferred: knowledge of contract law as it applies to purchasing processes
