About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Champion early development of new product programs involving battery and drive unit assembly, castings, machining metal components, engine and transmission assembly, and fuel cells.
  • Implement Lean Manufacturing Systems and Standardized Work to achieve line balance and program KPIs.
  • Develop plans, analyze status, and provide countermeasures for Launch Timing Plans to achieve IE/LMS deliverables.
  • Coordinate integration with engineering teams, suppliers, and in-plant Industrial Engineering teams from concept through prototype and full production.
  • Provide investment and labor impacts for new programs and model-year studies.
  • Lead Plan For Every Part workshops covering process, packaging, workstation design, material delivery, tooling, and layouts.
  • Analyze system data and participate in Throughput Improvement workshops for current production programs.
  • Participate in Virtual Builds and Pre-Production Build events.
  • Collaborate with Pre-Production Organizations on manufacturability, product design, complexity reduction, and base engineered content.
  • Support resolution of ergonomic issues.
  • Use Industrial Engineering tools for operation analysis, simulations, labor studies, ergonomics, workstation and plant design, continuous improvement, problem solving, value stream mapping, ROI studies, procurement, and layout development.
  • Build relationships with plant personnel and understand plant processes, projects, productivity initiatives, and metrics.
  • Consult, lead, mentor, and train peers on team-oriented special projects.
  • Keep current on product developments and identify learning and technology opportunities.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering or equivalent/related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of related Industrial Engineering experience.
  • Proven ability to lead multiple and difficult projects and assignments with high level of autonomy and accountability for results.
  • Excellent analytical, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional verbal/written communication skills and ability to adapt to any situation’s needs.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office, Office 365 applications, and AutoCAD.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% within USA, Canada, Mexico, and abroad.
  • Experience in Standardized Work (STDS) and Assembly Line Balance (APS).
  • GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship; candidates must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Preferred: 3 years of related Industrial Engineering experience.
  • Preferred: Knowledge and experience in the Vehicle/Powertrain/Propulsion Development Process.
  • Preferred: Experience procuring workstation materials.
  • Preferred: Experience with Benchmark Calculator (BMC), Simulations, Man-Machine Charts, Indirect Labor Studies, Purchasing Planning & Financial Tracking, Throughput Improvement Process (TIP), Ergonomics Evaluations, Workstation and Plant design using AutoCAD, Continuous Improvement Process (CIP), Problem Solving Techniques, Value Stream Mapping, return on investment studies, and Layout Development.
  • Preferred: Strong project management skills and ability to work to tight project deadlines.
  • Preferred: Manufacturing Plant experience.
  • Preferred: Proven ability to design work operations meeting safety, quality, and efficiency requirements.
