About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead a team of researchers and/or analysts within Global Customer Research Product Research
  • Bring the voice of the customer into GM vehicle software, digital experiences, features, and emerging technologies
  • Partner with Program Management and Software Product teams to understand customer needs, usage contexts, and experience opportunities
  • Translate stakeholder priorities into research plans aligned with product-development milestones and the GCR research roadmap
  • Lead framing conversations defining business decisions, target customers, learning objectives, scope, success measures, and use of findings
  • Develop dual-use stimuli connecting product intent with customer feedback
  • Represent the customer perspective in cross-functional forums
  • Plan, design, and execute qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method customer research
  • Lead foundational, benchmarking, contextual, pre-launch, and market-assurance experience studies
  • Select and apply interviews, ethnography, usability testing, in-vehicle evaluation, journey research, concept and feature testing, surveys, and competitive benchmarking
  • Translate research learning into concise, decision-ready deliverables and recommended actions
  • Synthesize learning across studies, customer themes, product areas, and technology domains
  • Directly lead, coach, and develop researchers and/or analysts
  • Build a high-performance culture focused on customer insight, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Manage research portfolios, work plans, milestones, budgets, suppliers, logistics, fieldwork, analysis, reporting, and stakeholder follow-through
  • Communicate status, risks, scope changes, trade-offs, and resource needs to leadership and stakeholders
  • Manage research suppliers, budgets, schedules, tools, and facilities according to GM processes and policies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Working knowledge of vehicle or product-development processes and customer research in product and program decision-making
  • Experience leading primary research projects or serving as a primary stakeholder for primary research, from framing through application of findings
  • People-leadership experience, including setting goals, coaching, and developing team members
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, schedules, and stakeholders in a complex, changing environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong presentation, facilitation, and persuasion skills
  • Proficiency using AI-enabled tools to improve the speed, quality, and effectiveness of research and day-to-day work
  • Creativity, resourcefulness, critical thinking, problem-solving, organizational, and stakeholder-management skills
  • GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship; candidates must not need GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future
  • Expected to report to Warren, Michigan at least three times per week
  • Required to travel less than 25%
  • No relocation benefits are provided
