Manufacturing Process Engineer – Additive Manufacturing

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support daily operation of polymer and metal additive manufacturing equipment, including build preparation, equipment troubleshooting, and issue resolution
- Improve equipment performance using OEE, yield, scrap, cycle time, and throughput metrics
- Lead structured problem-solving, kaizen, and continuous improvement activities with internal teams and equipment suppliers
- Design and execute DOE experiments and Cp/Cpk capability studies
- Develop and maintain Bills of Process, Bills of Equipment, manufacturing standards, and process documentation
- Lead procurement, installation, commissioning, and startup of new additive manufacturing technologies and equipment
- Deliver technical training and knowledge-sharing sessions
- Partner with engineering, operations, quality, design, and IT teams on manufacturing strategies, business cases, and technology roadmaps
- Evaluate emerging additive manufacturing technologies and develop strategic partnerships to expand GM's manufacturing capabilities
Requirements
What you’ll need- Background in manufacturing, process engineering, advanced manufacturing, or production operations
- Demonstrated application of structured problem-solving methodologies to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
- Ability to analyze manufacturing performance using process, quality, equipment, and operational metrics
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and projects with a high degree of ownership and accountability
- Success working across cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams to solve technical problems and implement solutions
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to work effectively in environments involving emerging technologies and evolving requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
- 2+ years supporting additive manufacturing or advanced manufacturing environments
- Hands-on operation of industrial additive manufacturing equipment, including FFF, MJF, SLS, PBF, DED, or similar technologies
- Proficiency in build preparation, slicing software, process parameter development, or equipment optimization
- Application of additive manufacturing technologies within automotive product development or manufacturing operations
- Background in materials science, metallurgy, polymers, or process characterization
- Support of manufacturing equipment installation, commissioning, validation, or launch activities
- Development of Bills of Process (BOP), Bills of Equipment (BOE), manufacturing standards, or production documentation
- Familiarity with Red X, Practical Problem Solving, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or equivalent structured problem-solving frameworks
- Master's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline is preferred
- Must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future
- Must be able to work at the specified location at least 3 times a week or at a frequency dictated by the manager
