About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Focus on occupant performance integration for frontal or side impact conditions
  • Lead technical projects across the full vehicle development lifecycle
  • Provide technical direction while collaborating with cross-functional groups to prioritize safety and balance requirements
  • Apply GM Safety CAE standard work procedures and ensure high-quality models and simulation results
  • Perform CAE simulations for high-speed frontal and side load cases using LS-DYNA
  • Develop and balance restraints for occupant protection
  • Lead vehicle design recommendations and technical solutions to meet safety performance targets documented in Vehicle Technical Specifications (VTS)
  • Balance safety requirements with other vehicle performance requirements
  • Collaborate with engineering functions, program teams, suppliers, manufacturing, and others to implement design changes
  • Use Variation Study, DOE, DFSS, and MDO methods to optimize performance
  • Plan, prepare, execute, and analyze post-test results at Vehicle Proving Grounds
  • Interpret measurements, analyze results, compare CAE with test results, and resolve issues with cross-functional teams
  • Collaborate with global teams
  • Present performance status at Safety PIT, PDT, CIT, and SP-QIT forums
  • Demonstrate GM Core Values and Behaviors

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited university: Mechanical, Biomechanics, Aero, Civil, Materials, or Applied Physics
  • 2+ years of demonstrated proficiency with CAE or related engineering experience (DRE, validation, lab)
  • Knowledge of engineering theory and application in automotive development
  • Willingness to learn new skills and adapt expeditiously
  • Ability to work independently and with others
  • High level of analytical ability to solve challenging problems and integrate complex systems
  • Knowledge of statistical and optimization tools and techniques
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of CAE and validation tools
  • Knowledge of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and Global Safety Requirements and Standards
  • Working knowledge of Unigraphics, TeamCenter, and VisMockup
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace applications and performance integration-related applications
