About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead and develop high-performance backend services and systems for GM Commercial Software
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable, and performant services and systems
  • Build and launch new capabilities and products that deliver value to internal and external customers
  • Uphold engineering standards and improve quality and engineering efficiency across codebases
  • Collaborate with product, design, and engineering stakeholders across the organization
  • Mentor engineers earlier in their technical careers

  • Participate actively in technical discussions and architectural deep dives
  • Help shape GM Commercial Software’s system architecture, APIs, products, and customer experiences

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years of hands-on backend software development
  • Experience building production-quality, highly performant and scalable distributed systems and Service-Oriented architecture
  • Experience with one of the JVM languages: Java, Scala, or Kotlin, plus SpringBoot
  • Experience writing high-quality production code that is thoroughly tested, clearly documented, and appropriately observable in production
  • Strong computer science fundamentals, including object-oriented concepts, data structures, algorithms, and systems architecture
  • Solid understanding and experience with NoSQL and relational databases
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
  • BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science/Engineering preferred
  • Must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future
  • Must be able to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week, or at another frequency dictated by the manager
