About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Define and deliver component architecture strategies for Traction Inverters, Accessory Power Modules, On-Board Charging Modules, or Battery Disconnect Units.
  • Establish technical direction and lead subsystem and system architecture decisions across new product programs.
  • Own architecture strategy, technical roadmap, design principles, and interface definitions for a designated power electronics portfolio.
  • Lead new product programs through Balanced Architecture or Advanced Technology Work phases, ensuring technical integrity, architecture maturity, gate readiness, cross-functional alignment, and risk closure.
  • Serve as the primary technical authority for component architecture decisions and lead trade-offs across safety, efficiency, power density, cost, weight, thermal performance, manufacturability, reliability, serviceability, and customer value.
  • Define electrical topologies, semiconductor technologies, cooling approaches, controls interfaces, packaging concepts, and scalability strategies.
  • Partner with Systems Engineering, Controls, Software, Hardware, Vehicle Integration, Manufacturing, Validation, and Supplier teams to implement and validate architecture decisions.
  • Drive design reuse, commonality, modularity, and standardization across multiple vehicle programs.
  • Lead technical studies, competitive benchmarking, and architecture trade analyses.
  • Establish and improve architecture standards, design guidelines, interface specifications, decision frameworks, and technical governance processes.
  • Present recommendations, alternatives, assumptions, risks, and business impacts to program leadership.
  • Anticipate technology, regulatory, semiconductor, supplier, manufacturing, cybersecurity, functional safety, and field performance risks and develop mitigation plans.
  • Mentor engineers and build a strong architecture community.
  • Work across multiple vehicle programs and functional organizations to influence technical outcomes beyond a single program team.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
  • 8+ years of new product engineering experience, including significant responsibility for power electronics systems, architecture, integration, controls, or hardware development.
  • Proven track record of delivering multiple complex automotive power electronics products from concept through launch.
  • Deep technical expertise in one or more power electronics product domains, including Traction Inverters, OBCMs, APMs, BDUs, DC-DC converters, charging systems, or related high-voltage vehicle systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead subsystem and system-level architecture development, interface definition, and cross-functional integration.
  • Strong understanding of power conversion topologies, wide-bandgap semiconductors, controls integration, thermal management, EMC, HV safety, electrical protection, and reliability engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to make high-consequence technical decisions using first principles, systems thinking, quantitative analysis, and documented assumptions.
  • Strong communication and technical leadership skills.
  • Experience creating and deploying architecture standards, interface specifications, technical guidelines, design reviews, and engineering decision frameworks.
  • Proven ownership of critical technical risk management across safety, reliability, quality, cost, performance, timing, supplier, and manufacturing concerns.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop engineers.
  • Evidence of cross-program impact through improved commonality, architecture reuse, launch readiness, technical quality, or measurable business outcomes.
  • Must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future, including H-1B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, or J-1 support.
  • Ability to report to the specified location at least 3 times per week, or at another frequency dictated by the manager.
  • Ability to travel less than 25%.
  • Desired: Master of Science in Engineering or equivalent advanced technical education.
  • Desired: 10+ years of power electronics product development, systems engineering, or architecture leadership experience.
