About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead deployment of AMRs, AFTs, ASRS, and kitting/sequencing systems across manufacturing operations
  • Identify and evaluate automation opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and strengthen material flow
  • Conduct labor studies using GMOS with Assembly Plant Industrial Engineers
  • Define unit counts, routes, and commodity flow requirements
  • Support layout reviews and process optimization through simulation, modeling, and data analysis
  • Collaborate with AMD Simulation and Solutions Teams from purchase order through execution and launch
  • Design future-state material flow strategies and automation roadmaps
  • Develop automation strategies with timing, cost, and implementation plans
  • Partner with Material Execution Leads, Manufacturing Innovation Teams, and Engineering Center Leads on continuous improvement
  • Work with strategic suppliers and plant partners to develop, implement, and scale automation solutions
  • Resolve deployment challenges involving containerization, logistics, and GPSC coordination
  • Perform feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses, and ROI assessments
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering, Manufacturing Operations, IT, and internal stakeholders on system integration
  • Develop and manage PMP plans, PCP assignments, JES/TIS revisions, ULOC/DLOC, and CMA documentation

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive manufacturing, automation deployment, material flow engineering, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience deploying and integrating AMRs with fleet management systems
  • Hands-on experience deploying and integrating AFTs with safety-rated navigation and control systems
  • Hands-on experience deploying and integrating ASRS with warehouse control software
  • Experience using labor analysis tools for indirect labor studies and quantifying automation impact on material movement
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Siemens Tecnomatix, or FlexSim for layout optimization and simulation
  • Working knowledge of PLC programming, robotic cell integration, OPC UA, Modbus, and Ethernet/IP
  • Ability to develop and manage PMP plans, PCP assignments, JES/TIS revisions, ULOC/DLOC, and CMA documentation
  • Experience conducting feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses, and ROI modeling
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and resolve material flow, containerization, and logistics issues
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience
  • Preferred: experience with digital twin modeling, simulation environments, or virtual commissioning
  • Preferred: familiarity with Factory of the Future concepts, AI-driven material flow, predictive analytics, and smart warehousing
  • Preferred: experience in unionized manufacturing launch planning, safety integration, and ergonomic assessments
  • Preferred: knowledge of ANSI/RIA R15.06 and ISO 10218
  • Preferred: experience with external automation vendors and system integrators
  • Preferred: proficiency with Power BI or Tableau
  • Must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future
  • Expected to travel regularly, 25–50%
