About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Source technology purchases, including software, SaaS, and infrastructure, on regional and global bases
  • Develop, negotiate, and implement sourcing strategies with technology, IT, Security, Privacy, Legal, and business stakeholders
  • Prepare and complete sourcing recommendations for various levels of management
  • Negotiate license models, competitive business cases, terms and conditions, legal terms, and complete contract packages
  • Recommend whether to accept or uphold terms and conditions deviations
  • Monitor IT and automotive industry developments and GM software and services strategy
  • Collaborate cross-functionally and externally while building strong relationships
  • Partner with IT and business teams on supply-base strategy, technologies, products, roadmaps, and viable suppliers
  • Work with suppliers on governance, deliveries, deadlines, lead times, contracts, and application types
  • Participate with Engineering, IT, business stakeholders, Legal, Security, and other key stakeholders
  • Develop and manage suppliers across quality, service, technology, and price negotiations
  • Manage annual renewal cadence and deadlines to support business continuity
  • Adhere to corporate purchasing and accounting policies and procedures
  • Develop and maintain benchmark data to drive sourcing strategy
  • Resolve commercial issues and assess supplier performance
  • Use Global Purchasing and Supply Chain sourcing processes to manage sourcing packages

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years of relevant purchasing experience; internship or co-op experience will not be considered
  • Ability to negotiate through complex and/or ambiguous situations while working independently
  • Project management experience and ability to manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously
  • Proficient communication skills
  • Ability to learn about purchased items without previous product knowledge
  • Analytical skills, including in-depth benchmarking
  • Ability to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet Research
  • SAP experience or ability to learn purchasing systems
  • Analytical thinking and sound decision-making
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Data analysis and judgment
  • Informative communication with appropriate audiences, including leadership
  • Relationship management
  • Negotiation skills
  • Results focus and ability to deliver on time
  • Workload management and prioritization
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time domestically and internationally
  • Strong proficiency with software concepts and legal and commercial terms and conditions preferred
  • Solid knowledge of contract law preferred

  • Engineering or IT background with software purchasing experience preferred
  • Understanding of basic engineering documents preferred
