About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop new propulsion system architectures
  • Lead cross-functional teams through Electrified Propulsion System Architecture development during the Advanced Technology Work (ATW) phase
  • Continue hardware development through the Balanced Architecture (BA) phase until handoff to execution teams
  • Balance vehicle and propulsion system hardware requirements
  • Collaborate with vehicle, battery, drive unit, and motor engineers to align requirements and technology with customer expectations
  • Develop propulsion systems to meet performance and cost targets with VDDV, Cost Engineering, and Planning
  • Ensure high-fidelity analytical models, initial component designs, and controls for key electrification systems and components
  • Lead component and system trade studies to optimize range, performance, drive quality, and cost
  • Lead project teams through ATW and BA gates with SMTs, Vehicle teams, Planning, Finance, and Electrification leadership
  • Benchmark automotive and other industries to identify innovative electric-vehicle technologies
  • Document new ideas for invention board review and patent submissions to protect intellectual property

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in product engineering
  • Ability to lead complex technical projects with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to define tangible approaches for ambiguous problems and identify optimal solutions
  • Creativity and latitude on challenging assignments
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Project management and negotiating skills
  • DFSS Black Belt
  • Master’s degree in engineering or relevant field (preferred)
  • 8+ years of experience in electrification engineering (preferred)
  • Must not require GM immigration-related sponsorship now or in the future, including H-1B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, J-1, or other immigration support
  • Must be able to report to the specified location at least 3 times per week or at a frequency dictated by the manager
