About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Define and adopt GM MFG IT Robotics capabilities
  • Identify opportunities to update or streamline GM Robotics Engineering processes with Manufacturing Engineering SMEs
  • Define and develop ML/DL solutions in real-world environments
  • Develop Computer Vision solutions in real-world environments
  • Design and deploy solutions based on research artifacts
  • Use simulation and data visualization
  • Design solutions at scale while minimizing operational overhead
  • Understand systems and interfaces end to end so solutions fit within constraints
  • Support and reinforce adoption of Robotics Software Engineering across the MFG IT organization
  • Drive identification, evaluation, and adoption of rapid iterative and incremental robotics software solutions
  • Collaborate with Junior and Staff Robotics Software Engineers and Manufacturing Engineering business partners
  • Travel to GM plants and facilities as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years of professional experience in robotics software development
  • Knowledge of Python and Java
  • Knowledge and experience with ROS (Robot Operating System) and MoveIt
  • Knowledge and experience with linear algebra, computer vision, and software development
  • Ability to travel as needed to GM plants/facilities throughout the US
  • Travel required 20%-25% of the time in North America (U.S. & Mexico)
  • GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship; candidates must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future
  • Preferred: Master's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Preferred: ML/DL, Computer Vision, Data Mining, Visualization, and Simulation
  • Preferred: Cloud technologies such as Docker, K8s, and HPC platforms
  • Preferred: Linux and bash scripts
  • Preferred: C++, C, C#, Go, SQL, and OpenGL
  • Preferred: PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Keras
  • Preferred: Experience with real-time systems
