About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop and deliver high-quality embedded controls software for high-voltage contactors and battery-pack energy management
- Ensure compliance with safety requirements, government regulations, and GM-internal policies including MISRA guidelines
- Apply software design principles, design patterns, supervisory controls architecture, and hardware abstractions
- Design, develop, and implement physics and controls requirements
- Improve mechatronic controls software, diagnostics strategies, and controller communication
- Maintain understanding of Ethernet standards and automotive communication protocols including CAN, LIN, and ARXML
- Test and demonstrate software functionality and readiness across controller, system, and vehicle levels
- Document design requirements and link them to test cases for traceability
- Use automated test tools in build environments, test benches, and vehicles
- Lead and guide Agile Scrum team members
- Coordinate with Systems & Safety, Validation, Electrical Architecture, SDV, Calibration, and Vehicle Performance departments
- Apply BDD/TDD methodologies and promote software built-in quality
- Use SDV and SOA principles to create optimized, modular software solutions
- Use CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for development, testing, and deployment
- Develop AI-driven diagnostics and predictive analytics for fault detection, prognostics, and anomaly detection
Requirements
What you’ll need- BS in Engineering – Electrical, Mechanical, Computer or BS in Computer Science
- Minimum 5 years of experience with proven technical and professional skills in embedded controls software for High Voltage Battery Systems
- Automotive Safety experience (ISO26262)
- Strong background in system design, diagnostics strategies, and control systems for embedded software applications
- Hands-on experience in SiL, HiL, and Vehicle-Level testing frameworks
- Proficiency in C/C++ programming
- Deep understanding of diagnostics strategies, software verification, and validation methodologies
- Knowledge of virtual testing, DevOps, and CI/CD pipeline integration
- Experience with JIRA and Scaled Agile Framework
- MS in Engineering or Computer Science preferred
- 8 years of experience preferred
- Experience with C, C++, Matlab Simulink, Auto Code Generation, and Python scripting preferred
- Experience with bootloader, embedded operating systems, controller communication or diagnostics, and complex device drivers
- Working experience in AUTOSAR standards and methodology
- Familiarity with MISRA guidelines
- Knowledge and experience with CAN, LIN, ARXML, or Ethernet communications protocols
- Proficiency with software architectures
