About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the definition and completion of the Vehicle Dynamics State Estimation system safety case for GM vehicle programs
  • Define functional and performance requirements with cross-functional engineering and product teams
  • Perform hazard analysis, fault tree analysis, interface analysis, FMEA, and related analyses
  • Support execution of new requirements and cascading roll-down to impacted organizations
  • Ensure requirements alignment and traceability
  • Confirm requirements through analysis, simulation, and physical testing, including HIL benches and vehicles
  • Use model-based systems engineering techniques to improve traceability, design quality, and variant management
  • Serve as GM’s subject matter expert for Vehicle Dynamics State Estimation
  • Influence technology direction, integration strategies, and issue resolution
  • Travel less than 25%

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics or related field of study
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience, ideally in systems engineering or functional safety
  • Experience developing or integrating embedded control systems
  • Familiarity with ISO 26262 or other functional safety standards such as IEC 61508, IEC 62304, or DO-178C
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to operate test vehicles as required
  • Must not require GM immigration-related sponsorship now or in the future
  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle regularly and successfully complete a Motor Vehicle Report review
  • Preferred: Experience developing vehicle dynamics products such as braking, steering, or suspension
  • Preferred: Experience developing vehicle dynamics state estimation systems, controls architecture, or software
  • Preferred: Experience owning an automotive functional safety case through a complete lifecycle
  • Preferred: Understanding of distributed and networked real-time control systems
