About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Define and communicate the architecture vision and multi-year roadmap for Brake and Thermal HIL capabilities.
- Define requirements and acceptance criteria for model fidelity, deterministic real-time execution, latency, scalability, and maintainability.
- Provide technical direction for real-time plant-model strategies covering brake, chassis, vehicle-motion, suspension, thermal-management, HVAC, and heat-pump systems.
- Guide integration of models and HIL environments with embedded controllers, control software, calibration tools, vehicle and subsystem hardware, electrical interfaces, and CAN, CAN FD, LIN, and automotive Ethernet networks.
- Lead resolution of difficult technical issues spanning modeling, controls, embedded software, communications, electrical and mechanical interfaces, real-time platforms, and laboratory apparatus.
- Partner with product management, software teams, hardware design-release teams, and test users to ensure delivered environments are fit for purpose.
- Improve robustness, usability, maintainability, documentation, operational readiness, and safe use of HIL benches and supporting assets.
- Lead large, ambiguous, and technically challenging initiatives across multiple engineering disciplines and organizational boundaries.
- Mentor engineers, grow technical capability, and promote knowledge sharing and reuse.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Typically 10 or more years of relevant engineering experience, including substantial experience with HIL, real-time simulation, embedded controls, or complex mechatronic test environments.
- Recognized expertise in brake controls, chassis controls, propulsion thermal management, real-time simulation, or HIL architecture.
- Experience defining architecture, technical roadmaps, system interfaces, non-functional requirements, acceptance criteria, and verification and validation strategies for complex engineering solutions.
- Success leading large, ambiguous, and technically difficult initiatives across multiple disciplines and organizational boundaries.
- Strong experience with MATLAB/Simulink and real-time simulation platforms such as dSPACE SCALEXIO.
- Strong understanding of plant-model development, calibration, model correlation, real-time execution, closed-loop simulation, and integration with embedded controllers and representative hardware.
- Working knowledge of CAN/CAN FD, LIN, automotive Ethernet, and related engineering tools.
- Familiarity with system safety, functional taxonomy and control architecture.
- Experience with Python, MATLAB, C/C++, or equivalent languages.
- Excellent written, verbal, and executive communication skills, with the ability to influence technical direction across teams.
