About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead strategy and advanced technology development for power inverters and power electronics system design and integration for GM’s future EV portfolio
- Set strategic direction, coordinate technology roadmaps, and provide technical leadership
- Develop and manage advanced power inverter and power electronics technologies
- Lead design, analysis, testing, and reporting through the advanced technical work process
- Develop advanced inverter and power electronics solutions meeting performance and cost targets
- Collaborate with Product Engineering, Systems Engineering, Modeling, Analysis, Cost Engineering, Planning, Manufacturing, and Program teams
- Specify system requirements and balance interdisciplinary requirements for optimized system and subsystem performance
- Coordinate technical support staff and assigned projects
- Lead global advanced benchmarking and monitor new technologies and competitive products
- Apply modeling, simulation, systems analysis, and optimization to system requirements definition
- Coach, train, mentor, and provide technical direction to team members
- Pursue cost reduction, performance, and efficiency improvement projects
- Research state-of-the-art inverter and power electronics integration trends across industry and academia
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to program and systems teams
- Teach inverter and power electronics principles and share knowledge across the organization
- Maintain relationships with university labs, national laboratories, and professional organizations such as IEEE and SAE
Requirements
What you’ll need- Master of Science or PhD in Engineering or related field
- 5 or more years of experience in automotive power electronics
- Extensive knowledge in inverter and power electronics theory and principles
- Extensive knowledge in design, development, and testing of inverters and power electronics systems
- Experience in analysis, design, development, and specification of power electronics for EV applications
- Experience implementing power electronics solutions in production
- Understanding of electrified vehicle systems and integration
- High-level technical problem-solving skills addressing vehicle-level issues
- Fluency using commercial tools for modeling and simulation of power electronics systems
- Hands-on power electronics testing experience in a high-voltage laboratory environment
- Experience leading projects with multiple suppliers
- Demonstrated success leading multiple advanced technology projects
- Power electronics component specification development for automotive applications
- High-level project management skills and ability to influence non-direct reports
- High-level interpersonal skills to work independently with domestic and international business partners
- Ability to work non-standard hours with overseas suppliers
- Availability to travel for supplier engagement and conferences
- Strong analytical ability to solve complex, ambiguous problems
- High-level oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work with minimum supervision and full autonomy
- DFSS Black Belt certification
- Position subject to export control restrictions; successful candidate must be a U.S. Person or eligible to obtain required export control authorization
