About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead integration of full-vehicle cross-functional co-simulation packages focused on vehicle dynamics and related disciplines
  • Resolve program issues by aligning co-simulation partners with technical and timing demands
  • Act as the single point of contact for vehicle dynamics co-simulation users
  • Forecast and plan resource needs and escalate requirements
  • Identify opportunities to innovate processes and methods
  • Align software releases, calibration milestones, and vehicle hardware releases
  • Design, develop, and integrate virtual hardware and software behavior models for active chassis systems across EV, PHEV, and ICE programs
  • Develop and integrate multi-body and 1-D vehicle dynamics models into SIL and HIL platforms
  • Create, evaluate, review, and verify FMU-based embedded controller models
  • Create and evaluate CAN, LIN, and Ethernet serial data communication interfaces for SIL and HIL simulations
  • Integrate chassis simulation components for loads prediction and structural design analysis of safety-critical components
  • Verify and validate vECUs, communication systems, and vehicle models against architecture and dynamic requirements
  • Develop test procedures for virtual vehicle development, calibration, and validation
  • Work with suppliers to troubleshoot virtual model issues and ensure deliverable quality and timing
  • Validate chassis controller performance through closed-loop learning and simulation-data analysis
  • Debug embedded software written in C/C++
  • Develop and validate automated simulation scripts using MATLAB and Python
  • Lead use of Simulation Data Management and version control tools, including GitHub
  • Define supplier co-simulation package requirements and ensure compliance with SIE governance standards
  • Represent vehicle dynamics needs among SIE peers
  • Mentor less experienced engineers in chassis controls development
  • Advocate for virtual methods in vehicle design, development, and validation

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • BS Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Ability to work in teams, balancing technical theory with practical limitations
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • No GM immigration-related sponsorship is provided; applicants must not require sponsorship now or in the future, including H-1B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, or J-1 support
  • Preferred: MS or PhD in a listed engineering or computer science field
  • Preferred: 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Preferred: Automotive hands-on experience with building, restoring, and modifying vehicles; completion of performance driving instruction
  • Preferred: Participation in collegiate or competitive teams such as Baja SAE, Formula SAE, EcoCAR, or PACE
  • Preferred: Experience with multibody dynamics tools such as Simpack or MSC ADAMS
  • Preferred: Experience with real-time 1-D vehicle dynamics tools such as CarSim or IPG CarMaker
  • Preferred: Experience with vECU environments such as dSPACE VEOS or equivalent
  • Preferred: Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink
  • Preferred: Experience with Git, SVN, or TFS
  • Preferred: Familiarity with SDM/PLM systems such as Teamcenter or IBM Rational Team Concert
  • Preferred: Experience with Python and/or C/C++
