About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide high-quality nursing care, ensuring patients’ physical and psychological needs are supported throughout treatment.
  • Provide patient education and support before, during and following radiation therapy.
  • Undertake direct patient care, including wound management and medication administration in accordance with practice protocols.
  • Manage the nursing needs of patients attending the clinic each day.
  • Collaborate with radiation therapists, medical physicists, patient services and other multidisciplinary team members.
  • Document, communicate and action patient interactions and clinical information.
  • Monitor and maintain procedures, protocols, practices and clinical guidelines in line with best-practice Radiation Oncology nursing standards.
  • Follow medication management protocols and clinical governance requirements.
  • Use ISBAR communication for patient handover and communication with relevant health and allied health services.
  • Demonstrate reliability, flexibility and commitment to an exceptional patient experience.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Hold current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.
  • Ideally have a minimum of two years’ post-graduate nursing experience.
  • Have previous oncology or cancer care experience, although this is not essential as Radiation Oncology nursing training will be provided.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and can demonstrate empathy and compassion for patients and their families.
  • Have well-developed clinical judgement, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Are confident in wound care management.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to best-practice principles, quality improvement and the NSQHS Standards.
  • Are committed to ongoing professional development and learning.
  • Certain roles may require evidence of vaccination against, or non-susceptibility to, specified vaccine-preventable diseases.
