About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead the technical work of the ScanGO team while remaining hands-on in the code
Own the code base and architecture
Define and enforce technical standards
Make architecture and technical decisions with authority to act on them
Prioritise issues for the backlog
Lead the migration of existing ScanGO customers to version 3.0 safely and quickly
Prepare ScanGO for integration with other Giant Leap applications
Build and review code alongside the team
Manage technical debt and keep the code base secure and maintainable
Coach developers and set the standard for code reviews
Act as a sparring partner for the Group Manager
Explain technical possibilities and limitations to stakeholders in terms of customer needs

Requirements

What you’ll need

8+ years of backend experience with PHP, preferably Laravel or a comparable framework
Strong knowledge of REST APIs, relational databases and software architecture
Experience with distributed systems, microservices and event-driven or asynchronous processing
Experience running production workloads on Kubernetes with GitOps
Previous technical lead experience
Stay close to the code and write tests
Work with AI tools such as Claude Code
Ability to communicate clearly with developers, customers and leadership
Understanding of the business and ability to keep several things moving at once
Fluent in Dutch and English, spoken and written
Bonus points for experience with RabbitMQ, Redis, PostgreSQL and PostGIS, Docker, Kubernetes, Azure, GitHub Actions, Terraform, ArgoCD, OpenTelemetry, Go or Next.js
