About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Champion test automation and shift-left practices across the organisation
- Help define and evolve organisation-wide QA standards
- Design and implement automated test tooling, processes, and scripts for functional and non-functional testing
- Establish performance baselines
- Own the automation strategy for a product area
- Analyse current practices and identify automation opportunities
- Migrate manual tests to automated solutions
- Author and maintain test cases
- Conduct exploratory testing
- Report defects with clear reproduction steps and outcomes in the bug tracking tool
- Collaborate with developers to promote best practices and build efficiently testable code
- Provide feedback on code quality
- Work with DevOps engineers to integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines
- Establish test execution strategies at scale
- Apply AI-assisted tools to improve test efficiency, coverage, and reliability
- Analyse test results, identify trends, and provide actionable stakeholder insights
- Work with product owners to refine and prioritise quality work in the backlog
- Mentor and coach QA engineers and developers in testing practices, automation design, and framework usage
- Document processes and best practices to grow automation capability across the team
- Work across a cloud, microservice-based platform and a lower-level engine with command-line tools, libraries, and file processing
Requirements
What you’ll need- Able to shape and balance the test pyramid as products evolve
- Experience defining approaches to TDD/BDD and non-functional testing, including performance, load, and security
- Strong focus on test automation for libraries, CLIs, or daemons
- Capable of designing, building, and maintaining testing frameworks from scratch
- Development, testing, and scripting experience with a C# codebase
- Experience in an Agile or AI-native team
- Experience driving in-sprint test case development and exploratory testing
- Strong understanding of DevOps principles and continuous delivery
- Experience with Azure CI/CD pipelines and repositories
- Experience integrating automated testing with CI/CD
- Experience building, deploying, and testing in cloud environments
- Able to communicate test strategy and risk to non-technical stakeholders
- Passion for software quality, shift-left practices, and shortening feedback loops
- Demonstrable interest in continuous improvement
- Experience with Playwright or similar frameworks is beneficial
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills are beneficial
- Exposure to API-level testing or low-level C/C++ library testing is beneficial
- Successful candidate must live in the United Kingdom
- Comfortable working from home with some meetings in the London office
