About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop and coordinate a portfolio of projects focused on developing and delivering new and existing antibiotics for priority drug-resistant infections aligned with the SBI disease area strategy
- Serve as cross-functional Head of the SBI Portfolio with accountability for strategy and execution of multidisciplinary R&D projects
- Align SBI access projects with SBI programme and disease area strategies
- Lead programme activities across regulatory, nonclinical, clinical, pharmaceutical, and access development from development planning through execution and delivery
- Ensure product-availability access activities align with portfolio and disease-area strategies
- Partner with the Head of Medical, SBI, and coordinate with the Global Access Director on medical and access strategies
- Ensure appropriate transition of projects to commercial-led status with Business Development, Partnerships Engagement, Global Access, and sublicense partners
- Represent the SBI portfolio in external affairs, policy, and advocacy activities
- Develop and maintain the transversal SBI disease-area strategy and portfolio of programmes, projects, and activities
- Lead cross-functional evaluation of new interventions, potential assets, and project concepts
- Develop programme-level drug-development and access-development strategies
- Provide governance frameworks and oversight for project planning, execution, reporting, budgets, and resource allocation
- Line-manage R&D project leaders and oversee access-led project alignment
- Oversee programme preparations and interactions with the Scientific Advisory Committee
- Co-lead partnership strategy and provide oversight for project-level collaborations and joint-development steering committees
- Ensure regulatory compliance, R&D best practices, GARDP SOPs, international GCP, and relevant regulations
- Lead external development of new approaches with WHO, regulatory agencies, and antibiotic-development partners
- Report to the R&D Director, with an indirect line to the Global Access Director
- Collaborate across R&D, Business Development, Partner Engagement, Global Access, External Relations, Executive Office, and Finance
- Build and maintain collaborations and represent GARDP with external stakeholders
- Travel up to 25%
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum of 12 years' senior experience in drug development (antimicrobials preferred) in pharmaceutical sector, or biotechnology, or non-for-profit global health
- Minimum Ph.D life sciences or medically qualified (MD) with specialism or extensive research experience in infectious diseases, antimicrobial development
- Experience of leading R&D programmes, projects and collaborations with strong evidence of working in partnerships across public and private sectors
- Significant budget and resource accountability experience
- Excellent ability to lead strategic programs
- Excellent strategic thinking and leadership abilities
- Excellent management, negotiation, and advocacy skills
- Excellent ability to use initiative, prioritize, multi-task, and work well under pressure to meet deadlines
- Excellent analytical skills with ability to assimilate data, recognize key variables, analyze complex situations and lead a team to a consensus position
- Excellent ability to exercise a high degree of independence to ensure program delivery and explore new areas of activities
- Very clear and systematic thinking that demonstrates strong judgment and problem-solving competencies
