About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop, manage, and conduct research and evaluation projects supporting programmatic and policy priorities
  • Research the impact of legislative changes in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and spillover effects on school meals and other nutrition programs
  • Collect, synthesize, and articulate findings affecting children’s access to the food safety net
  • Create research summaries and resources for program partners and external stakeholders
  • Support teams with research and data questions and research needs
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with external researchers
  • Identify third-party research projects, select researchers, and manage studies
  • Disseminate research findings to internal and external audiences
  • Develop tools and methods to gather and synthesize learnings on program strategy implementation
  • Develop and administer surveys
  • Translate complex research issues for non-research audiences through various channels
  • Review existing research and data sources to stay current on evidence and data
  • Explain research evidence and program data to inform strategy and support Communications, Funder Support, State Campaigns, and Advocacy teams
  • Manage third-party research initiatives to develop strategy, inform program and policy implementation, and demonstrate impact
  • Support Share Our Strength’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Master’s degree required in Public Health, Public Policy, or a related field
  • 5–8 years of related work experience
  • Demonstrated experience in applied research and evaluation design, execution, or oversight
  • Demonstrated experience with mixed methods research, including qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis, and synthesis
  • Experience managing vendors or consultants
  • MS Office proficiency
  • Experience with Excel, SPSS Statistics, Atlas.ti, Condens, or other analytical platforms
  • Experience with survey platforms is a plus
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills
  • Strong judgment and emotional intelligence
  • Ability to work independently on multi-step, detail-oriented projects in a fluid environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presenting to high-level audiences
  • Demonstrated experience articulating and disseminating research to influence policy or program recommendations
  • Interest in anti-hunger and anti-poverty issues
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently
