About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform venipuncture and microcollection
  • Ensure timely, high-quality specimen collection, processing, and distribution
  • Enter and maintain patient and specimen data in the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
  • Perform Point-of-Care (POC) testing according to departmental guidelines
  • Serve as a Senior Phlebotomist when needed, providing guidance and support to peers
  • Practice Universal and Standard Precautions
  • Use the 2-patient identifier according to Joint Commission patient safety guidelines
  • Communicate special instructions to patients
  • Perform venipuncture and microcollection according to CLSI guidelines, standard operating procedures, and laboratory policy
  • Document specimen collection data into the LIS
  • Adhere to specimen handling and transport guidelines
  • Communicate with clinical staff
  • Teach and train new employees and students as assigned
  • Perform waived and POC testing and collect urinalysis specimens
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Monitor supply par levels and restock supplies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or GED (required)
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician required through NHA, NPCE, NCCT, AMT, or ASCP
  • At least one year of hospital based phlebotomy experience (preferred)
