About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design and implement an append-only, journals-as-truth Postgres billing and entitlement ledger
- Build canonical payments, subscription, entitlement, and user-billing systems
- Own purchase, renewal, resubscription, upgrade, downgrade, switching, proration, trials, cancellation, and lapse workflows across Stripe and Razorpay
- Build idempotent, replay-safe webhook ingestion for Stripe, Razorpay, and Apple notifications
- Implement dead-letter handling and daily gateway-to-books reconciliation
- Handle refunds, chargebacks/disputes, credits, and partial or zero-amount settlements
- Produce financial and entitlement data for accounting close, revenue recognition, GST/IGST and US tax, deferred revenue, exchange reporting, and conversion/retention analytics
- Own the TypeScript/Astro/React user billing cabinet and checkout
- Backfill historical payments and migrate the live business from the legacy CouchDB account model
- Run the new system in parallel, validate reconciliation, and cut over read/write paths region by region
- Report to the CTO and collaborate with Finance and the COO
Requirements
What you’ll need- 6–10 years of backend engineering experience
- Deep Go experience
- Strong relational data modelling and SQL skills
- Experience building or rebuilding payments, subscriptions, and ledgers end-to-end
- Experience with payment-gateway integration and idempotent webhooks
- Experience with subscription lifecycles, including renewals, proration, upgrades, cancellation, and dunning
- Experience handling refunds and disputes
- Experience with reconciliation between gateways and books
- Experience with revenue recognition and tax, such as GST/IGST and ASC 606 or equivalent
- Experience with financial/exchange reporting
- Experience with event-sourced or append-only ledger design, journals-as-truth, derived state, and signed entries
- Experience building or owning a B2B product with complex billing and entitlement requirements
- SQL fluency for investigating financial discrepancies
- Comfortable with TypeScript/React frontend development
- Must work in person at the Chennai office
- Nice to have: fintech or trading domain experience
- Nice to have: EU VAT/OSS, multi-entity, or multi-currency billing experience
- Nice to have: AWS Cognito/identity at scale or live legacy data-model migration experience
- Nice to have: reconciliation, finance-close, or revenue-reporting pipeline experience
