About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare students for internships and future opportunities
  • Develop and manage internships in sectors matching students’ interests
  • Work with Young Adult Borough Center staff to provide educational and career resources, support and guidance
  • Facilitate skill- and competency-building employment/internship preparation classes and workshops
  • Provide job and career counseling to students
  • Provide continuous feedback and resources to support student growth
  • Collaborate with advocate counselors and social worker
  • Recruit students for LTW internship opportunities
  • Monitor LTW students to facilitate internship retention
  • Develop in-person and/or remote internships across diverse employment fields
  • Guide employers on maximizing internship experiences with adolescents
  • Facilitate seminars and employment/internship readiness workshops
  • Assist with out-of-school issues and provide crisis intervention as needed
  • Track, evaluate, and report on multiple aspects of program operations
  • Meet with staff from other LTW sites to share learning, compare approaches, and develop program ideas
  • Travel locally and within the NYC area 1–2 times a week for partner site visits and new site development
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 1 year experience working with adolescents/youth adults in education/employment related fields required
  • Strong group facilitation or teaching skills required
  • Statistical and narrative record keeping accountability required
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • Experience developing internships for youth preferred
  • Ability to work with diverse staff and students and network with diverse employer constituents
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Candidates with Administrative, Hiring, Budgeting, Creating Workshops, Community Organizing and Community Partnership skills are encouraged to apply
  • Commitment to work from a strength-based, youth development perspective
  • Ability to travel locally and within the NYC area 1–2 times a week for site visits
