About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Provide specialist database administration expertise across SQL Server, Db2 z/OS, Db2 Midrange and MongoDB
Support database version upgrades, migrations and optimisation activities, with an immediate focus on MongoDB upgrade and migration
Assess database environments and identify upgrade, compatibility, migration, performance and operational risks
Optimise database performance and remediate identified issues
Ensure data consistency, integrity and availability during upgrade, migration and support activities
Support database activities in containerised environments and advise on risk mitigation
Collaborate with APS technical teams to plan, test and implement upgrades and migrations
Document configuration changes, upgrade steps, risks, issues and lessons learned
Support knowledge transfer to APS staff through blended delivery and targeted skills transfer
Provide technical support across SQL Server, Db2 z/OS, Db2 Midrange and MongoDB platforms
Occasionally work out of hours for scheduled activities or complex incidents

Requirements

What you’ll need

Australian Citizenship
Active Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance
Senior / EL1 equivalent experience level
Expert-level Microsoft SQL Server administration, including performance tuning, backup and recovery, high availability, security and enterprise operational support
Expert-level IBM Db2 z/OS administration, including performance monitoring, backup and recovery, data integrity, security and enterprise operational support
Expert-level IBM Db2 Midrange administration, including performance monitoring, backup and recovery, data integrity, security and enterprise operational support
Expert-level MongoDB administration, including replication, backup and recovery, performance tuning, data consistency and enterprise operational support
Experience supporting database platforms in containerised environments
Ability to identify and manage platform, deployment and operational risks
Ability to plan, validate and implement controlled database upgrades and migrations while maintaining service continuity, data integrity and availability
Knowledge of database upgrade, migration, performance tuning, replication, backup, recovery and data consistency controls
Strong troubleshooting, technical documentation and stakeholder communication skills
Complex government or enterprise ICT experience is desirable
Experience contributing to knowledge transfer, technical documentation and internal team skills uplift is desirable
Ability to provide a one-page pitch addressing all specified criteria
