About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own the frontend of a high-traffic headless storefront and the Node.js services behind it
  • Lead design and development of a multi-market storefront in Next.js and TypeScript
  • Choose and justify rendering strategies based on traffic patterns and freshness needs
  • Design end-to-end caching from CDN and edge through browser, including invalidation
  • Own performance budgets and optimize bundle size, hydration cost, and time to first byte
  • Build and maintain orchestration between storefront and commerce services using Node.js with REST or GraphQL
  • Handle multi-currency and multilingual storefront experiences
  • Implement and iterate on payment and checkout flows using gateways such as Stripe, PayPal, Klarna, Apple Pay, and Google Pay
  • Support A/B testing and analytics tracking
  • Maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end test coverage and healthy CI/CD pipelines
  • Support observability through logging, monitoring, and rollback procedures using AWS where applicable
  • Guide and mentor mid-level engineers
  • Collaborate with Gradion and client engineering teams, including European engineers
  • Experiment with AI developer tools including Cursor, Claude, and Copilot

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years of engineering experience on production web applications at scale, with recent work weighted towards frontend
  • Strong command of TypeScript, React, Next.js, JavaScript, and browser fundamentals
  • Backend experience with Node.js and REST or GraphQL APIs
  • Experience designing orchestration layers between storefront and commerce services
  • Understanding of rendering and caching strategies and their trade-offs
  • Hands-on experience deploying to CDN or edge platforms such as Cloudflare, Vercel, or CloudFront
  • Working exposure to AWS, including Lambda, S3, or similar services
  • Experience with automated testing and CI/CD pipelines
  • Good spoken and written English
  • Willingness to learn the Shopify ecosystem
  • Experience with Shopify, especially headless setups using Storefront API, Functions, or Checkout UI Extensions (nice to have)
  • Background in e-commerce or another conversion-driven product (nice to have)
  • Experience with subscription or recurring purchase flows (nice to have)
  • Hands-on experience with Playwright or Cypress and analytics tools (nice to have)
  • Familiarity with headless CMS platforms (nice to have)
