About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve nursing students, emphasizing students from underrepresented populations in nursing
  • Support academic success and holistic development of nursing students, especially transfer completion
  • Assess and interpret academic progression and develop success plans for students unsuccessful in course attempts
  • Guide students individually in navigating barriers and developing success plans
  • Maintain knowledge of nursing program requirements, completion pathways, transfer partnerships, and transfer admission requirements
  • Track and follow up with referred students and students not meeting minimum passing standards
  • Connect students to career, work, and skills-based experiential learning activities
  • Document and monitor academic progress of individual students and identified groups
  • Establish plans covering study methods, coping skills, stress reduction, time management, organization, and test-taking strategies
  • Collaborate with nursing faculty and the program director on growth opportunities and development areas
  • Collaborate with RN to BSN transfer institutions and clinical partners on career exploration opportunities
  • Increase job readiness through professional networks, job tools, and social media presence
  • Participate in staff meetings and review success data to inform advising interventions
  • Provide holistic individual and group career and transfer information
  • Develop electronic career and transfer resources for students’ post-GRCC goals
  • Develop academic, career, and transfer resources for classroom faculty
  • Collect data and prepare or assist with annual departmental and accreditation reports
  • Support GRCC’s Strategic Plan through employee development and business success activities
  • Perform other duties supporting student success, completion, and departmental needs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • BSN highly preferred
  • Degree in Higher Education, School Counseling, Social Work, or related field preferred
  • Current Nursing License highly preferred
  • 2 or more years in Career and Academic Advising, preferred experience in working with Nursing programs OR 2 or more years in working with community college students and/or adult learners
  • Experience with assessing student needs and identifying barriers to student success
  • Experience creating/building a supportive network for students to be successful in the nursing program
  • Experience creating success/action plans for students
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Initiative and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective presentations
  • Commitment to serving a diverse student population with respect and equity
  • Ability to analyze information and conceptualize solutions
  • Professional image, punctuality, and good attendance record
  • Creativity and innovation, including problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with many stakeholders and independently with limited supervision
