About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Prepare detailed estimates from design documents, narratives, and specifications for MEP trades in the Federal Division
- Communicate mechanical and electrical estimates and scopes of work to the estimating team and management
- Participate in estimate reviews with estimating teams, management, and joint venture partners
- Prepare quantity take-offs, analyses, estimates, and studies from conceptual design through completed construction documents
- Review bid documents and assess project risks
- Understand project logistics and schedules
- Develop relationships with MEP subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers
- Build and maintain lists of qualified vendors
- Ensure General Conditions and General Requirements items are addressed in estimates
- Prepare and assemble estimates and proposals for lump sum, GMP, and Cost Plus contracts
- Use BIM software for pre-construction and construction tasks
- Participate in estimate hand-offs to Operations and transfer knowledge
- Develop and solicit scope requisitions for MEP bidding and procurement
- Coordinate with estimators to eliminate scope gaps and overlaps
- Evaluate subcontractor proposals and manage scope-gap risks
- Assist operations staff in evaluating large change orders
- Gather and analyze MEP bid data and maintain historical cost and unit pricing databases
- Use estimating and quantification tools including HeavyBid, AutoCAD, and BlueBeam
- May supervise Assistant MEP Estimators, Estimating Assistants, and Interns
- Travel for site visits, pre-bid meetings, or estimating support may be required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or equivalent related work experience
- 7+ years of construction estimating support, engineering, field support, or similar experience
- 4+ years of estimating experience related to Mechanical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Electrical, Technology, and Low Voltage System estimating, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Experience with Design-Build (DB), Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR), or other alternate contract delivery types favored
- Proficiency with MS Office products, AGTEK Take-off, and Primavera Scheduling software
- Advanced knowledge of HeavyBid or similar direct estimating software, BlueBeam, and AutoCAD
- Advanced knowledge of Mechanical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Electrical, Technology, and Low Voltage systems
- Advanced knowledge of construction principles
- Advanced knowledge of agency (U)DBE requirements
- Familiarity with BIM software
- Ability to work independently and with a team
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to comply with corporate safety initiatives
- Ability and willingness to abide by Granite’s Code of Conduct
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Must be safety conscious when working around large construction equipment
