About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Develop accurate and timely proposals and estimates for private and public sector works projects from $50 to $100 million
Administer safety programs and foster participation at all levels
Promote environmental policy compliance and mitigate operational effects
Foster a quality culture and ensure quality products or services
Analyze and compile labor, material, equipment, location, and other cost data
Review drawings, specifications, and proposed project site conditions
Solicit field operations input for final project estimates
Analyze alternative solutions and construction methods to improve bid competitiveness
Review take-off quantities for estimate accuracy
Use cost history to validate estimates
Perform advanced mathematical calculations for accurate cost estimates
Present estimates and participate in bid reviews with senior management
Communicate with owners, subcontractors, and public and private entities
Communicate bid information to field operations at pre-construction meetings
Develop and maintain business relationships to increase regional bid opportunities
Supervise, direct, and mentor estimating staff
Participate in or lead design-build preconstruction services
Participate in or lead means-and-method discussions to drive creative and innovative estimating approaches

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or equivalent related work experience
10+ years estimating experience
Prior management experience required
Proficiency with MS Office products, AGTEK Take-off, and Primavera Scheduling software
Advanced knowledge of estimating software
Advanced knowledge of civil engineering principles
Advanced knowledge of construction principles and equipment capabilities
Advanced knowledge of agency (U)DBE requirements
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Must comply with corporate safety initiatives
Valid driver’s license and ability to drive
Ability and willingness to abide by Granite’s Code of Conduct
Ability to travel to other regions in the country for IP/JV bidding opportunities, including air travel and overnight stays
Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Ability to work around large construction equipment and outside working conditions
