About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Direct and coordinate all daily quality activities, including production, design, customer service, vendor complaints and customer complaints
- Set product and service quality guidelines with upper management
- Participate in formulating company policies affecting quality
- Direct and coordinate implementation of an AIB/HACCP Quality system
- Formulate quality policies and objectives with management
- Implement document control, quality records, auditing plans, training plans, inspection and testing equipment controls, corrective action and statistical techniques
- Confer with department heads to coordinate quality activities
- Provide management analyses of production performance and product and service performance
- Direct re-work and disposal of defective or returned cartons
- Analyze and control department expenditures within budget
- Supervise the quality technician team and report directly to the site manager
- Oversee development, implementation, review, maintenance, communication and integrity of the SQF system, including Good Manufacturing Practices and Food Defense
- Lead and train a multidisciplinary HACCP team
- Update site leadership monthly on SQF matters
- Lead and coordinate the annual plant review of the SQF system
- Validate and verify SQF controls
- Develop and maintain internal audit schedules and coordinate SQF third-party audits
- Coordinate SQF root cause and corrective action activities
- Establish and maintain methods and criteria for monitoring, sampling, inspecting, testing and analyzing materials and goods
- Review and update SQF training skill requirements
Requirements
What you’ll need- At least 5 years of professional experience, preferably in a similar industry and manufacturing
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field to Business, Quality, Continuous Improvement, Engineering or similar
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work well with customers, sales and manufacturing
- Knowledge of AIB/HACCP programs
- Knowledge of folding carton industry
- Knowledge of TQM principles and SPC
- Knowledge and ability to run various testing equipment
- Ability to sit, walk or stand for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours
- Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to work overtime, any shift, including 12-hour shifts, evenings and weekends
- Ability to use various office equipment, hand and electrical tools or equipment
- Ability to use personal protective equipment in designated areas
- May use pallet jacks, scales, forklifts and computers
- Complete a HACCP Training course as defined by SQF Code requirements
- Competence in understanding the SQF Food Safety Code: Manufacture of Food Packaging and requirements to implement and maintain the site’s SQF System
