About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Create and implement health, safety, occupational, and environmental programs to prevent workplace injuries, illnesses, and environmental accidents
Inspect workplace and environmental incidents in accordance with company procedures and implement corrective actions
Ensure compliance with internal and external environmental and employee health and safety requirements
Identify areas for environmental, health, and safety improvement
Develop and manage an environmental and employee health and safety training plan
Maintain relationships with the community, environmental groups, and other stakeholders affected by organizational environmental performance
Direct, leverage, and guide the work of others and mobilize resources
Manage experienced professionals and/or supervisors
Monitor and achieve operational and/or financial results
Hire, terminate, reward, train, and develop employees
Adapt departmental plans and priorities to meet short-term challenges
Advise subordinates to meet schedules and resolve technical problems
Develop and administer schedules and performance requirements
Participate in and present at internal and external meetings
Follow SQF procedures and participate in SQF root cause and corrective actions

Requirements

What you’ll need

BA degree or related work experience required in lieu of degree
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position satisfactorily, with or without a reasonable accommodation
Experience managing experienced professionals and/or supervisors
Ability to direct, leverage, and guide the work of others and mobilize resources
Ability to monitor and achieve operational and/or financial results
Ability to perform people management actions including hiring, terminating, rewarding, training, and developing employees
Broad technical expertise in environmental and employee health and safety
Understanding of concepts, theories, and principles in the relevant discipline and basic knowledge of other disciplines
Ability to solve problems following operational policies
Ability to interpret and administer policies, processes, and procedures
Ability to develop and administer schedules and performance requirements
Ability to interact with internal personnel and outside representatives
Ability to participate in and present at internal and external meetings
Ability to follow plant rules, processes, hygiene, and allergen procedures related to Safe Quality Foods (SQF)
Ability to report potentially unsafe SQF conditions and customer complaints
Ability to participate in SQF root cause and corrective actions
