About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead a team in safety, quality, and productivity during paperboard packaging production
  • Set up, run, and maintain a wide-web, 8-color and coating flexographic printing machine
  • Print on various types of substrate paperboard
  • Make in-process adjustments to press controls
  • Manage ink and check print quality
  • Arrive on time and work scheduled hours, including overtime as needed
  • Model and reinforce safe-work practices and policies
  • Follow written procedures and report discrepancies
  • Wear required personal protective equipment
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Listen to, follow, and relay written and verbal instructions
  • Operate assigned equipment safely and productively
  • Re-position printing plates and adjust anilox rolls, machine settings, speed, ink flow, positions, and pressure tolerances to improve print quality
  • Examine job orders for quantities, production times, stock specifications, colors, color sequences, and anilox BCM
  • Monitor the in-line BST system for registration, print, and defects
  • Set up presses from shutdown and shut down equipment
  • Manage personnel and tasks during a make ready
  • Perform minor maintenance and preventive maintenance
  • Recognize and prevent common setup problems
  • Use quality instruments and perform continuous visual inspections
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects
  • Train assistant operators and others
  • Communicate with plant personnel and press technicians to solve production problems
  • Record safety, quality, production, and maintenance data on paperwork and computers
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards throughout the press room
  • Perform other assigned duties

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Ability to stand for 8-to-12 hours
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to differentiate colors
  • Computer skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Reading apprehension
  • Working knowledge of PC and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Previous hands-on experience running a flexographic printing press in manufacturing
  • Ability to operate a crane, sleeve, and parts washer
  • Ability to rebuild, remove, and install UV lamps as needed
  • Ability to assemble a make ready
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance on make ready equipment and components
  • Knowledge of press components and their effects on critical quality elements
  • Knowledge of the physics behind ink and color characteristics
  • Ability to use quality instruments and industry-specific equipment
  • Ability to read tape measures in metric and standard measurement systems
  • Ability to operate powered and manual industrial equipment
  • Ability to attend required safety, quality, and productivity training and meetings
