About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Promote, maintain, and implement accountability systems for health, safety, and environmental excellence at the Shelbyville location
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and GPI guidelines
  • Oversee prevention and correction of unsafe working and environmental conditions
  • Drive initiatives to increase safety awareness, effectiveness, and efficiency
  • Maintain written safety and health programs
  • Maintain environmental programs, including the site’s Title V permitting
  • Maintain the workers’ compensation program in compliance with the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Act
  • Identify required safety and environmental training and oversee employee training
  • Provide technical support for HSE projects, problem solving, investigations, site inspections, audits, and safety activities
  • Inspect property, equipment, and work practices for regulatory and insurance carrier compliance
  • Maintain HSE communications and make priorities and performance visible
  • Maintain injury records and communicate safety information
  • Facilitate and participate in job safety analysis and process hazard analysis
  • Provide leadership to plant employee safety (JETS) teams
  • Oversee incident investigations, root-cause identification, documentation, and corrective actions
  • Enforce company policy related to drug testing and disciplinary action
  • Manage post-accident return-to-work accommodations
  • Organize and maintain HSE performance, compliance, policy, procedural, and critical backup information
  • Develop and implement industry best-practice HSE systems, reporting, statistics, and trend analysis
  • Research developments in OSHA, USEPA, ILEPA, and other state and federal laws and regulations
  • Monitor action items from EHS and security audits, inspections, and incident investigations
  • Provide on-the-floor EHS coaching and recognition and support EHS responsibilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in HSE in an industrial manufacturing environment, preferred
  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental, Occupational Safety, or similar discipline
  • Advanced safety or environmental certification, preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong, engaging, people-centered leadership style
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to develop and implement HSE programs and processes
  • Ability to develop and effectively deliver training
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, organizational, and detail-orientation skills
  • Time management and multitasking skills
  • Ability to implement creative solutions; initiative and self-direction
  • High level of integrity, strong work ethic, good judgment, and problem-solving skills
