About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage various aspects of the Health, Safety & Environmental program for the plant
- Participate in compliance programs, including OSHA, state, and other federal regulations, and maintain knowledge of government Health and Safety regulations and BWC
- Manage Worker’s Compensation and attend all hearings
- Implement plans and deliver results by participating in Paperboard Manufacturing Division Health and Safety initiatives to drive process improvements
- Provide input to manufacturing plant and departmental strategy
- Coordinate, plan, and drive Health and Safety Committee reviews and support Area Health and Safety Team Meetings
- Contribute to Paperboard Manufacturing Facility priorities and planning
- Provide solutions to complex Health and Safety and security issues as the Health and Safety leader
- Design, develop, implement programs, and oversee First Responders, OSHA Audiometric and Respirator fit testing, Process Safety Management, and industrial hygiene
- Assist department managers with corrective actions for safety or other incidents
- Complete EPA Air permit reporting and manage waste documentation for compliance
- Update daily HSE board and perform safety GEMBA walks
- Facilitate safety eyewear and safety shoe program
- Deliver Safety & Environmental new hire orientation
- Investigate incidents, develop corrective and preventive actions, and promote Health and Safety-conscious work performance
- Drive hazard identification and risk reduction across the plant
- Complete ergonomic assessments
- Update train-the-trainer status and PIV training as needed
- Increase near-miss reporting for prevention
- Work with OSHA officials, state police, Hazmat, community representatives, and other officials
- Manage and document Health and Safety audits and inspections
- Determine Health and Safety training requirements, schedule training, and provide or coordinate employee training
- Direct and coordinate health care related to disability, urgent and emergency care, work limitations, return-to-work plans, accommodations, and part-time work
- Participate in machine outages to oversee Health and Safety aspects
- Support the HSE global vision, mission, goals, and objectives
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in health and safety and/or related field or 3-5 years of experience in a related field
- Possesses broad technical expertise, business and industry knowledge, and process and people leadership capabilities
- Paper manufacturing experience preferred
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Familiarity with HSE data management system (i.e., SAP, EHS Insight, Riskconnect, or similar data management system)
- Must maintain CPR/First Aid certification
- Must be knowledgeable in BBS
- On call 24/7 as needed in the event of an emergency
