About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide supervision and direction to 11–15 employees
  • Plan and control production performance using key performance indicators
  • Ensure compliance with safety rules, customer quality requirements, and production specifications
  • Lead and participate in plant safety, housekeeping, and continuous improvement efforts
  • Communicate daily with the shift and direct day-to-day shift activities
  • Ensure schedules and releases are met
  • Manage performance issues, including disciplinary action when required
  • Prepare and distribute daily shift reports
  • Conduct daily audits and implement countermeasures to prevent recurring problems
  • Communicate identified problems and status updates to support teams and crews
  • Monitor shift performance across safety, environment, overtime, housekeeping, quality, cull, and production efficiency KPIs
  • Complete shift accident investigations within 24 hours and ensure corrective actions
  • Manage job assignments and crew-member training plans
  • Mentor and coach operations personnel on paper-machine fundamentals and technical skills
  • Foster employee engagement and behavior-based safety processes
  • Coordinate with department managers to optimize mill production
  • Partner with technical training to maintain current operator training programs
  • Promote ISO standards and implement labor-relations requirements in consultation with Human Resources
  • Lead problem-solving strategies and execution of departmental objectives
  • Sponsor employee ownership toward shared production goals

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree a plus or 5+ years of supervision
  • Five to seven years of previous supervisory experience; manufacturing environment preferred
  • Five to seven years of previous Paper Machine Supervisory Experience preferred
  • Continuous Improvement – Lean Six-Sigma, Lean/Six Sigma knowledge preferred
  • Good people skills and ability to influence people
  • Good organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Able to motivate people to perform at a higher level
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • SAP experience is a plus
  • Willingness to work one of four 12-hour rotating shifts, including early mornings, nights, and/or weekends
  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation
