About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare rolls for printing and ensure ink and printing plates are ready for the Press Operator
  • Keep the work area clean and orderly
  • Assist the Press Operator with changeovers
  • Work safely and follow all safety rules
  • Check roll size and basis weight at the press
  • Make rolls press ready
  • Dispose of outer wrap and scrap in proper areas
  • Prepare cylinders and ink at the press before changeovers
  • Keep the press unwind loaded with paper
  • Return ink to the ink room
  • Cut down make-readies and delta scrap before the end of the shift
  • Clean printing plates and return them to the mounting room
  • Help the mounter in the mounting room
  • Communicate effectively with the oncoming shift
  • Instruct and train other Press Helpers once qualified
  • Assist with shutdown and startup procedures
  • Follow Safe Quality Food procedures and report unsafe conditions or customer complaints
  • Assist in other areas and perform duties assigned by the Production Supervisor

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or GED (preferred, not required)
  • Basic mechanical skills
  • Skills necessary to perform technical tasks
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-task environment
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and detail orientation
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to follow verbal or written instructions
  • Ability to perform essential physical functions with or without accommodation
  • Ability to walk or stand for extended periods, up to 12 hours
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to carry up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to lower up to 30 lbs. from a height of 4 feet
  • Ability to lift up to 85 lbs. to a height of 6 feet with a second person
  • Visual acuity and depth perception
  • Ability to work in various temperatures and humidity levels
  • Ability to work alternating 12-hour shifts, including 7 a.m.–7 p.m. or 7 p.m.–7 a.m.
  • Ability to fulfill necessary overtime requirements
  • Ability to follow plant rules, processes, hygiene, and allergen procedures related to Safe Quality Foods
