About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Run printing presses efficiently and safely
  • Ensure the overall quality of printed sheets
  • Select random sheets from each load and check color, register, markings, and other quality criteria
  • Determine causes of printing problems and adjust the press to correct errors
  • Remove full pallets from the press with a hand truck
  • Correctly flag skids and place empty pallets on the press
  • Record production and quality data, including production time, output, correction and waiting time, and defective materials
  • Use ColorMeasure to keep color within specification and log color-quality records
  • Perform second pressman or feeder duties as needed
  • Complete press make-ready for new printing jobs
  • Lead second pressman and feeder in weekly, monthly, and yearly preventive maintenance and press cleaning
  • Clean, oil, and grease the press and change rollers when necessary
  • Provide on-the-job training to the second pressman and feeder-operator
  • Follow plant rules, processes, hygiene, allergen, and Safe Quality Food procedures
  • Report unsafe conditions and customer complaints
  • Participate in SQF root-cause and corrective actions as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Mechanical/technical aptitude
  • Strong working knowledge of computer systems
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write English
  • Basic math skills
  • Working knowledge of printing press
  • Feeder/Operator and Second Pressman experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to work alternate schedules and overtime, including early mornings, nights, and/or weekends
  • Punctuality
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
  • Ability to perform awkward and/or repetitive movements
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. without assistance and up to 100 lbs. with assistance
  • Ability to pull full pallets weighing 1,500–2,000 pounds with a hand truck
  • Required standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, reaching, handling, talking, hearing, and visual acuity
  • Color vision required
  • Ability to lift and carry ink buckets up to 35 pounds and rollers up to 100 pounds with assistance
  • Familiarity with printing presses, CPC (Color Printer Control) for Heidelberg presses, wrenches, and related tools
