About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide management and engineering support for capital projects
  • Initiate and support continuous process improvement and Lean/Six Sigma efforts
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership in engineering disciplines to all departments
  • Evaluate engineering costs, design, and implement plant projects
  • Manage projects, including machine design and integration, scheduling, planning, and cost estimation
  • Prepare complex machine layouts and detailed drawings according to Engineering Standards and Factory Mutual safe practices
  • Develop improved engineering techniques and procedures using broad engineering disciplines
  • Conduct research into major-scope and complex problem areas
  • Prepare or direct engineering studies and design documents consistent with recognized standards and project requirements
  • Select equipment and plan and oversee installation for projects
  • Negotiate contracts for capital purchases
  • Support facility food safety, food defense, quality, SQF/5S, LEAN, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement programs
  • Understand customer requirements and deliver results meeting or exceeding expectations
  • Stop processes that do not meet food safety requirements

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and 5-8 years of experience in manufacturing, preferably folding cartons, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • BA or equivalent plus 6 years of related experience, or MA plus 4 years of related experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • 5-8 years of experience with AutoCAD design software preferred
  • Proficient use of MS Office applications
  • Ability to manage projects, resources, and people and set and meet target disciplines
  • Ability to develop improvements and achieve budget/cost constraints
  • Ability to perform essential functions satisfactorily, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Follow plant rules, processes, hygiene, and allergen procedures related to production of Safe Quality Foods
  • Report potentially unsafe conditions and customer complaints to a person of authority
  • Participate in SQF root cause and corrective actions as required
