About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design and deliver features end to end, from discovery and technical design through implementation, testing, release, and iteration.
- Build and maintain Gravitee API Management features across the gateway runtime, management API, and console, including the move to Gamma.
- Work on API security, rate limiting and quotas, CORS, and policy and plugin chains in request/response flows.
- Design and develop Java-based APIs and services using asynchronous and non-blocking patterns such as Vert.x/RxJava with backpressure.
- Build responsive TypeScript and Angular interfaces and data visualizations.
- Create observability views over Elasticsearch/OpenSearch logs and metrics.
- Help customers configure and observe AI Gateways, MCP tools and servers, agent identity, and agent-to-agent interactions.
- Model and transform operational data into understandable and actionable platform insights.
- Own US-hours Level 3 and Level 4 APIM customer escalations as part of the L3 pager duty rotation.
- Use LLMs and AI-assisted development tools for prototyping, implementation, testing, debugging, and exploration.
- Write meaningful automated tests and contribute to reliable delivery practices.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, engineers, and technical leaders, including APIM teams in Europe and India.
- Participate in code and design reviews, share knowledge, and help the team make practical technology and protocol choices.
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years building and running production backend software on a team that ships and supports its own product.
- Personally resolved production incidents.
- Strong Java experience.
- Experience designing maintainable REST APIs and backend services.
- Experience with Maven and a reactive stack such as Vert.x/RxJava with backpressure.
- Strong TypeScript and modern frontend development experience using a component-based framework; Angular preferred.
- Experience building data-rich interfaces and visualizations.
- Working knowledge of API gateway and reverse-proxy architecture.
- Knowledge of request lifecycle, policy and plugin chains, entrypoints/endpoints, and synchronous and event-driven APIs.
- API security fundamentals: OAuth2, JWT, API keys, mTLS, rate limiting and quotas, and CORS.
- Experience with MongoDB or relational databases.
- Experience with Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.
- Git-based workflow, code review, and writing automated tests.
- Hands-on experience using LLMs or AI coding assistants in an engineering workflow.
- Judgment to review and improve AI-generated output.
- Clear communication, collaborative problem-solving, and ability to take an ambiguous problem through to production.
- Equivalent practical experience accepted; no educational credential is specified.
- Ability to work US hours for Level 3 and Level 4 customer escalations as part of the L3 pager duty rotation.
