About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Join a small senior team building a new multi-tenant SaaS product from day zero
Own the overall system architecture, service boundaries, contracts, and failure model
Design and build services end to end across the Go core and Python layer
Own the multi-tenancy model, including tenant isolation, data residency, noisy-neighbour behavior, and tenant blast radius
Own long-term data-layer strategy, including schema design, partitioning, and horizontal scaling decisions
Own Kubernetes topology, resource and scaling behavior, rollout and rollback strategy, and observability
Turn product and build specifications into production software and challenge incorrect specifications
Review colleagues' work and write architecture decision records
Raise engineering standards and improve other engineers' capabilities
Shape product architecture and direction
Work with Greenstep's product and technology organization and internal expert users
Participate in a practical work-sample interview and potentially use AI tooling

Requirements

What you’ll need

10+ years building production backend systems, including several years operating them
Experience owning distributed production systems from design to operation
In-depth distributed systems knowledge: partial failure, retries, idempotency, ordering, consistency trade-offs, and backpressure
Experience designing and operating multi-tenant SaaS systems
Deep PostgreSQL knowledge: schema design, indexing, query planning, transactions, isolation levels, connection pooling, locking, and live-table migrations
Understanding of PostgreSQL at scale, including declarative partitioning and horizontal scaling
Strong TypeScript or Python skills, with comfort working in both
Go is a plus
Experience with event-driven or event-sourced systems, or clear understanding of their challenges
High standard for correctness and testing
Daily, deliberate use of AI coding tools and understanding of their limitations
Clear written communication; experience with specs, decision records, and pull request descriptions
Genuine curiosity about the business domain
English is the working language
Finnish is not required
Must hold a full-time work permit; Greenstep does not sponsor work visas
Must live close to the Espoo location
