About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Oversee daily accounting operations and deliverables for a portfolio of nonprofit and/or government contractor clients
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly close processes, financial reporting, and compliance requirements
- Serve as primary point of contact for ongoing client communications
- Support client onboarding by establishing workflows, timelines, and expectations
- Present financial results and key insights to client management and leadership teams
- Plan, schedule, and staff engagements; delegate effectively to promote staff development
- Monitor engagement budgets, time budgets, and resource utilization; assist with billing
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and advisory insights
- Review internal controls and staff work programs; provide coaching, training, and feedback
- Supervise and review Staff and Senior Accountants and mentor Supervisors
- Prepare client financial statements and supporting schedules according to GAAP, regulations, and firm standards
- Identify GAAP implications in client transactions
- Anticipate problem areas, inform leadership of significant developments, analyze issues, and recommend solutions
- Promote an inclusive, accountable, and collaborative team culture
- Stay current on relevant standards, regulations, industry trends, and cloud-based accounting tools
- Instruct professional development programs
- Prepare reports and projects requested by partners
- Participate in practice and proposal development efforts
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- Typically 5-10 years’ experience in public accounting/outsourced accounting, demonstrating progression in complexity, scope, and number of engagements managed
- CPA preferred but not required
- Effective written and oral communications with employees, partners, clients, and vendors
- Ability to organize projects, set priorities, and delegate tasks under changing circumstances
- Ability to assume a lead role in planning and implementing assigned projects
- Ability to keep long-term objectives in mind while focusing on daily activities
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive firm and client information
- Demonstrated ability to bring in new business
- Minimum of 40 hours of continuing professional education required each year
- Participation in career development program
- Ability to mentor less experienced staff
- Proficiency with modern accounting technology such as QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, Bill.com, Nexonia, Excel, and Generative AI
