About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, build, and own backend services supporting the full lifecycle of Gridware devices and field assets
  • Build GraphQL APIs supporting an offline-first mobile application used by field crews and utility linemen
  • Develop reliable data pipelines and integrations for exchanging asset data with utilities
  • Design systems and data models representing grid infrastructure, assets, and relationships
  • Own systems end to end, from architecture and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and production operation
  • Work directly with field crews to understand operational workflows and see software used in the field
  • Partner with Field Operations, Product, Data, and other engineering teams to translate real-world workflows into scalable software
  • Contribute to architecture and technical decisions as systems and field deployments scale

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years of professional backend software engineering experience
  • Strong experience with Python and PostgreSQL, including making schema changes to live production databases
  • Experience designing and building production GraphQL APIs and data pipelines where correctness and reliability matter
  • Experience building and operating distributed systems, including debugging and understanding failures in production
  • Experience deploying and operating services in cloud environments
  • Experience using AWS and Kubernetes
  • Experience using AI coding tools effectively while maintaining ownership of the design, quality, and correctness of the code produced
  • Strong technical judgment, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Track record of owning software systems end to end and proactively identifying and addressing problems
