About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Architect services that remain correct and responsive as the device fleet scales to hundreds of thousands of devices.
Design for failure modes, graceful degradation, and efficient data access.
Build automation into core workflows, including hazard reporting, device health analysis, and field-operations remediations.
Own the technical vision for critical initiatives and drive reliable, secure system design decisions.
Establish code quality, testing, observability, performance, and operational excellence practices.
Mentor engineers at every level and help develop future technical leaders.
Design and build core software systems powering Gridware’s platform, spanning backend services and frontend tools.
Collaborate with Hardware, Firmware, Data, and ML teams to monitor the grid, control the fleet, and deliver real-time alerts to utilities.

Requirements

What you’ll need

8+ years building and operating large-scale production systems, including scaling them through rapid growth.
Deep experience in designing and scaling distributed data-intensive systems, overcoming reliability and performance challenges.
Proficiency in Python, TypeScript, React, GraphQL, PostgreSQL and Kafka (or similar modern stack).
Experience mentoring engineers and seeing them grow into senior technical roles.
Strong product sense and a passion for building products that combine software, sensors, and the physical world.
Experience developing real-time or event-driven systems (MQTT, WebSockets, gRPC, etc.).
Familiarity with observability tools such as OpenTelemetry, Grafana, or Mimir.
Background working in hardware–software ecosystems or IoT systems.
