About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Contribute to industrial dirty utility and plumbing system design
  • Design systems involving steam, chilled water, heating hot water, compressed air, natural gas, and plumbing
  • Develop construction documents for industrial and commercial code-compliant underground plumbing systems
  • Specify boilers, chillers, cooling towers, heating hot water skids, air compressors, receivers, tanks, and related utility equipment
  • Develop user requirements, P&IDs, equipment sizing calculations, equipment specifications, and datasheets
  • Modify or develop piping, material, and equipment specifications
  • Perform vendor and bid evaluations
  • Monitor project progress and attend factory acceptance testing
  • Supervise contractors in the field during construction for safety, quality, and schedule
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design, start up, and commission new systems
  • Answer contractor questions, review and approve component submittals, and issue field notices
  • Ensure drawings are as-built, document commissioning, and prepare turnover packages
  • Ensure compliance with company, environmental, building code, and regulatory policies and procedures
  • Analyze existing utility systems and infrastructure and reconfigure them to support new operations
  • Develop into a site subject matter expert for industrial utility design and construction
  • Provide equipment sizing calculations
  • Support FDA-licensed blood fractionation, purification, and filling operations
  • Improve process or capital process technology, productivity, and quality
  • Maintain awareness of governmental, industry, and academic developments
  • Participate in technical or industry associations
  • Transfer technology and knowledge into the business
  • Lead installation, qualification, and process-controls integration of mechanical systems
  • Develop objectives and implementation plans for engineering teams
  • Help define organizational approaches and develop, justify, and implement strategies
  • Present complex ideas clearly and simply
  • Identify areas for improvement and solve problems

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field is preferred, not required
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of industrial experience
  • Related experience or a combination of related education and experience and/or competencies may be considered in place of stated requirements
  • Must have communication skills for interacting with internal and external customers
  • Report-writing skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to prepare reports, spreadsheets, and system design plans
  • Ability to facilitate meetings and organize reports
  • Ability to work in an office and laboratory/manufacturing environment
  • Ability to use required personal protective equipment
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Pharmaceutical experience is a plus
  • HVAC experience is a plus
  • AutoCAD, PipeFlo, Revit, and Plant 3D experience is a plus
  • Ability to make precise coordinated finger movements and perform repetitive hand and foot movements
  • Correctable vision to specified levels, including color and depth perception
