About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide technical and scientific expertise to develop novel formulations of plasma-derived or recombinant proteins
  • Develop intermediate and final formulations of protein therapeutics, including liquid and lyophilized drug products, in appropriate container closures
  • Support development of downstream purification processes
  • Design and manage studies to identify novel protein formulations
  • Apply protein characterization methods to examine protein properties
  • Perform protein purification unit operations such as chromatography, filtration, precipitation, phase separation, and lyophilization
  • Execute action plans independently, as part of a team, or as departmental team lead
  • Develop action plans supporting departmental goals
  • Independently design, execute, and interpret scientifically rigorous experiments
  • Direct others in study execution when needed
  • Prepare and edit complex procedures and technical reports, including data interpretation, for regulatory submissions
  • Prepare and communicate technical results in cross-functional settings
  • Mentor and train junior staff in protein analyses and characterization methods
  • Represent the functional area on cross-functional teams

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or relevant life science field
  • 7+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree, 5+ years relevant experience with a Master’s degree, or 3+ years relevant experience with a PhD
  • Extensive knowledge in protein biochemistry or protein characterization
  • Experience designing studies to identify suitable protein formulations
  • Experience performing and analyzing protein assays relevant to formulation development
  • Experience with HPLC, DLS, viscosity, and UV/Vis spectroscopy
  • Experience with DSC and SDS-PAGE preferred
  • Experience executing bench-scale process unit operations: chromatography, UF/DF, precipitation, and filtration
  • Expertise in drafting Instructional Processes
  • Ability to apply scientific or engineering principles to novel problem solving
  • Critical judgment and strategic thinking for cross-functional team representation
  • Advanced written communication and excellent oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of standardized root cause analysis, investigation tools and methodologies
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work in a clinical and/or laboratory environment with exposure to biological fluids, infectious organisms, chemicals, and electrical office equipment
  • Ability to use required personal protective equipment
  • Ability to lift 15–30 lbs., with a maximum lift of 35 lbs.
  • Correctable near and far vision and color perception/discrimination
  • Ability to communicate complex information and apply abstract principles to solve complex issues
