About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Share the technical strategy for Ground News' mobile properties, with a direct mandate to grow Android users and subscription revenue
Build and ship high-quality Kotlin experiences across Android conversion surfaces
Partner with CRO, Growth, Marketing, and Sponsorships to translate hypotheses into experiments
Enable non-engineering partners to change subscription pages, modals, and copy without engineering support
Own and evolve the marketing-technology stack, including RevenueCat, Google Play, experimentation platforms, analytics, and CDP tooling
Mature the mobile experimentation program by framing hypotheses, sizing impact, measuring results, and shipping winning experiments
Set standards for mobile performance, accessibility, analytics, and Core Mobile Vitals
Serve as the senior technical voice in code review and mobile architecture
Manage safe Android rollouts through feature flagging, monitoring, and risk mitigation
Maintain end-to-end funnel instrumentation for trustworthy analytics and data-driven decisions

Requirements

What you’ll need

Strong, opinionated track record of growing user base and revenue from mobile properties, with specific outcomes
Deep expertise building production mobile apps in Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, MVVM, Firebase, and RevenueCat
Hands-on experience working with or alongside a CRO function
Fluency in modern marketing technology tooling and best practices
Demonstrated track record running mobile experimentation, including A/B and multivariate testing
Experience standing up self-serve tooling for non-engineers to ship changes safely; experience migrating platforms is a plus
Hands-on experience with PostHog; Amplitude or Segment are acceptable substitutes
Experience with instrumentation behind a trustworthy funnel
Sharp eye for mobile performance, accessibility, analytics, and conversion on consumer-scale properties
Experience shipping production changes safely using feature flagging, monitoring, and risk mitigation
Willingness to travel occasionally to the Kitchener, Ontario HQ and company-wide All Hands meetups
Experience mentoring or technically coaching engineers is a bonus
Experience with a subscription or consumer-media product is a bonus
Legally eligible to work in Canada
