About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide parent education through regular personal visits, both virtually and in person, using the Parents as Teachers curriculum
  • Assess family needs and provide developmentally appropriate information, guidance, and support
  • Conduct required screenings under program guidelines and other requirements
  • Collaborate with the Parents as Teachers team to design, coordinate, and lead monthly Group Connection events
  • Represent the Parents as Teachers program at community events supporting families and young children
  • Coordinate services with Growing Home and community programs
  • Recruit an initial caseload and conduct ongoing recruitment activities
  • Plan, provide, and document personal visits focused on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting, and family well-being
  • Share research-based information with families using the PAT curriculum
  • Invite families to monthly group activities to build social connections and support children's development
  • Maintain and submit family and program documentation to meet program fidelity and funder requirements
  • Record documentation in the Visit Tracker database
  • Organize supplies and materials needed for personal visits
  • Participate in individual and group reflective supervision, all-staff meetings, and team meetings
  • Obtain competency-based professional development and renew Parent Educator certification annually
  • Complete Born to Learn training through Parents as Teachers to earn certification for working with children from birth to age 5
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement
  • Work within a participant-centered framework
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of participant, donor, and volunteer information
  • Maintain a healthy and safe work environment

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Experience working directly with young children and families, or related field preferred
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) required
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to establish rapport with families and empower them by building on their strengths
  • Ability to feel comfortable speaking with individuals about PAT and attend community events for recruitment purposes
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft 365 applications such as Teams, SharePoint, Word, and Outlook, and web browsers such as Chrome or Edge
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to complete the required “Born to Learn” curriculum successfully before initiating PAT services; training is provided and paid for by Growing Home
  • Commitment to working with various populations and creating a welcoming environment for all
  • Ability to provide services and resources responsible/relevant to participant needs
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality
  • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member
  • Ability to maintain current certification as a Parent Educator by completing required professional development hours
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of valid vehicle insurance required
  • Reliable vehicle required
