About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own commercial contract review from intake through redlines, negotiation, advice, and execution
- Negotiate vendor, marketing and creator partnership, agency, and retailer agreements
- Manage litigation holds, preservation, discovery, subpoenas, outside counsel, matter budgets, and reporting
- Lead advertising enforcement and brand protection, including cease-and-desist and demand letters
- Support trademark and anti-counterfeiting efforts
- Build legal systems, including precedent libraries, templates, playbooks, approval matrices, contract repositories, and matter tracking
- Handle sweepstakes, giveaway rules, consent and opt-in language, and releases
- Coordinate with Unilever commercial contracting, IP, privacy, employment, litigation, and Wellbeing Legal teams
- Run legal intake and prioritization
- Manage outside counsel budgets and invoices
- Work with Marketing, Retail, Operations, People, and Customer Experience teams
- Report to the General Counsel
Requirements
What you’ll need- JD
- Active bar license in good standing in at least one US jurisdiction
- If living in a state where not admitted, eligibility to register there as in-house counsel
- Roughly 3–4 years of post-JD experience
- Experience negotiating commercial contracts end to end across vendor, SaaS, marketing, and/or retailer agreements
- Judgment on risk in fast-moving, high-stakes situations
- Ability to handle problems outside one's core area independently
- Fluent and thoughtful AI use, with the ability to verify AI output
- Proactive protection of confidential and privileged information
- Exceptional organization and management of dozens of matters simultaneously
- Initiative and ability to propose solutions
- Comfort handling unfamiliar legal issues through research and consultation
- Understanding of margin, subscription economics, and business objectives
- Litigation exposure is a plus, not required
- Entrepreneurial energy is a plus, not required
- Experience in CPG, DTC, supplements, food and beverage, or advertising law is strongly preferred
